Busy Week

Howdy, another short post this week. I've got two things going on that I want to tell you about.

Teaching

I've posted this on twitter, but Ill talk about it here too. I'm going to be teaching Macalester College's Computer Science 123 class. Comp 123 is an introductory course in computer science, with the goal of teaching students how to be competent computer programmers. Basically, I get to teach people how to program. Awesome.

I'm really excited about this opportunity to teach. Not only is this a great opportunity for me to improve my teaching, but it lets me learn more about what teaching life would be like at a liberal arts college. To make things better I've heard Macalester will have a long term position open when I graduate, so if I like it there its technically possible to stay (hiring committees willing of course).

The only downside to all this is that "welcome to Macalester stuff has me really busy and is chewing up blogging time.

Super Academy

So this isn't really an academic thing, but its also exciting. Some friends of mine have been working super hard on post production on their web series project: Super Academy. They just released the trailer, posted a release date, and announced that they are going to be teaming up with the escapist to release the series.

I've been following the series for a while, backed the last two kickstarters, and I ended up as one of the two prop masters for this season. Working on the series taught me a lot about microcontrollers, DIY technology, and prop making (which I would love to write about it if someone thinks they would read it). It's really cool seeing my friend's work come together, see my friends on screen, and see my props shine (literally).

The series follows a group of four young super heroes as they attend "Super Academy", better their super skills, and deal with various heinous crimes. If anything about that sounds interesting I would recommend you check the promo out and consider following the series.
