Summer Computing Academy for female students (junior high and high school)

Two-weeks (June 10-21, 2019) and one-week (June 24-28, 2019)

The main goal of this program is to teach computer programming using python in an intense hands-on program to be held on the University of Minnesota campus.
The program will include lectures on fundamental programming concepts and on the python programming language together with extensive hands-on experience in a computer lab.
Instruction will be done by graduate students and professors. Participants will have ample time to work in a computer lab to develop programs for small robots, image processing, and other applications under close supervision of teaching assistants. In addition, there will be a variety of career planning and discovery activities.

The program will run every weekday, Monday to Friday, from 9:00am to 4:30pm (we will stay until 5:00pm or until everyone is gone). Students will need their own transportation to campus.
We will meet in room Keller 2-260. The room is on the second floor, which means you have to take the elevator or the stairs down one floor from the main entrance to the Keller building on the plaza.

Eligibility: We are offering two programs:

  1. Two-weeks program: two weeks (June 10 to 21, 2019) for female high-school students about to enter grades 9th to 12th and incoming college students. We do not require specific programming knowledge but expect familiarity with using computers.
  2. One-week program: (June 24 to 28, 2019) for female students in junior-high or high-school who have no programming experience. We will introduce them to the foundations of programming and the programming language python.

Cost: Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor and of Polaris we can offer the Summer Computing Academy for a low enrollment fee. Scholarships available upon request.
The cost for attending the full program of two weeks is $100.00.
The cost for attending the one-week program is $60.00.
This includes lunch every day, snacks, access to computers, and auxiliary activities.

Application:
Both programs are full. If you are interested for next year, email me and I will let you know when the dates of next year program are finalized, which will be in early February.
