The main goal of this program is to teach computer programming using python in an intense hands-on program to be held on the University of Minnesota campus.
The program will include lectures on the fundamental programming concepts and on the python programming language together with extensive hands-on experience in a computer lab.
Instruction will be done by graduate students and professors. Participants will have ample time to work in a computer lab to develop programs for small robots, image processing, and other applications under close supervision of teaching assistants. In addition, there will be a variety of career planning and discovery activities.

The program will run every day from 9:00am to 5:00pm (the organized activities will finish by 4:30pm, with time until 5:00pm as needed). Students will need their own transportation to campus.

Eligibility, how to register, and cost

Eligibility: We are offering two programs:
  1. Full program: two weeks from June 13 to June 24, 2016 for female high-school students in all grades (9th to 12th) and incoming college freshmen. We do not require programming knowledge but expect enough familiarity with using computers.
We will accept up to 25 students. In exceptional cases we will accept participants who can attend only the first week of this program. We will not accept participants who can attend only the second week.
  2. One-week program: from June 13 to June 17 for female students in junior-high or high-school who have no programming experience. We will introduce them to the foundations of programming.
We will accept up to 20 students.

Cost: Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous private donor and of the Best Buy Foundation, we are able to offer the Summer Computing Academy for a low enrollment fee. Scholarships are available upon request.

The cost for attending the full program of two weeks is $75.00.
The cost for attending the one-week program is $50.00.
This includes lunch every day, snacks, access to computers, and auxiliary activities.
