SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Prasanna Desikan is currently a Sr. Director of Engg. and Data Sciences at Health Level building innovative healthcare platform and data science solutions that are used in operational settings for delivering effective and efficient care. Prior to Health Level, he was a Director of Analytics at BaseHealth which was acquired by Genalyte Inc. Before moving to BaseHealth, Prasanna was a Data Scientist Lead at Blueshield of California leading development of advanced analytical solutions for a variety of business problems that span pricing (trends in member churning), health care quality (predictive models), pharmacy analytics (network analytics for opioid overdose). Before moving on to Blueshield of California he was a lead investigator for Data mining initiatives at Division of Applied Research, Allina Health. Before Allina, Prasanna worked in the medical device industry at Boston Scientific on their advanced remote patient monitoring system. Prior to that, as a Senior Researcher at Infobionics Inc, a start-up based in Eden Prairie, Minn., he was instrumental in building innovative data management software and securing funding.

His areas of expertise include applying data mining and social network analysis techniques on healthcare data for improved care delivery, financial effectiveness and population health. Examples of typical solutions developed include predicting RAF(Risk Adjustment Factor) scores, Potentially Preventable Event, Predicting Risk of Readmissions, Predicting High Cost Catastrophic Claims, Opioid Overutilization Patterns. Many of his works have also resulted in peer-reviewed publications.

Prasanna was an invited panelist at National Forum on Data and Analytics in Healthcare, 2014 held in DC. He has been an invited speaker forums on many national and international Healthcare Business Intelligence, Real World Evidence and Predictive Analytics forums.

He has been the Industry Track Chair at IEEE International Conference on Healthcare Informatics(ICHI) in 2015,2016,2017, 2019. He was the Tutorial Chair at ICHI 2014. He has co-organized a tutorial on Data Mining for Healthcare Management at SDM 2011, PAKDD 2011, and Health Informatics, Imaging and Systems Biology Conference (HISB), 2011. He has been a co-organizer for workshops on Data mining for healthcare management at ICHI 2013 PAKDD (2010 to 2013).

He received his Ph.D and M.S in Computer Science and Masters in Healthcare Administration (M.H.A) from University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, USA.
