Bottom Up Approach Up: No Title Previous: Comparison with some of

Literature Survey

In this chapter a survey of existing clustering techniques has been done. A brief description of the schemes is presented followed by some comments from the following viewpoints.

  1. Description of the scheme
  2. What is the objective function for the scheme ?
  3. How does the scheme compare with the proposed scheme(s) ?
  4. Will it be useful to have a multilevel formulation in this particular scenario ?

[3] talks a great deal about the existing partitioning techniques using clustering. The authors refer to clustering as a k-way partitioning scheme for large k of order n itself. Figure  gif shows a brief taxonomy of clustering related approaches. The clustering algorithms normally fall under two categories:

  1. Bottom up approach
  2. Top Down Approach
