SHORT BIO

Stergios I. Roumeliotis received the Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, in 1995, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California, CA in 1999 and 2000 respectively. From 2000 to 2002 he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the California Institute of Technology, CA. Between 2002 and 2008, he was an Assistant Professor with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Minnesota, MN, where he is currently an Associate Professor. Since 2009, S.I. Roumeliotis is the Associate Director for Research of the Digital Technology Center. His research interests include vision-aided inertial navigation of aerial and ground autonomous vehicles, distributed estimation under communication and processing constraints, and active sensing for reconfigurable networks of mobile sensors.

S.I. Roumeliotis is the recipient of the Guillermo E. Borja Award ('09), the National Science Foundation (NSF) Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) ('08), the NSF CAREER award ('06), the McKnight Land-Grant Professorship award ('06-'08), the ICRA Best Reviewer award ('06), and he is the co-recipient of the One NASA Peer award ('06), and the One NASA Center Best award ('06). Publications he has co-authored have received the Robotics Society of Japan Best Journal Paper award ('07), the ICASSP Best Student Paper award ('06), the NASA Tech Briefs award ('04), and two of them were Finalists for the ICRA Best Student Paper Award ('09) and the IROS Best Paper Award ('06). S.I. Roumeliotis is currently serving as Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Robotics.
