Shashi Shekhar is a McKnight Distinguished University Professor
at the University of Minnesota. For contributions to spatial
databases, spatial data mining, and geographic information systems(GIS),
he received IEEE-CS Technical Achievement Award and
was elected an AAAS Fellow and an IEEE fellow.
He co-authored a textbook on Spatial Databases,
co-edited an Encyclopedia of GIS and
served on the Mapping Science Committee of the
National Research Council (National Academies).
He is serving
as a co-Editor-in-Chief of Geo-Informatica: An International Journal
on Advances in Computer Sc. for GIS;
and steering committee member of the ACM Intl. Conference on GIS.
