  • My original religion is Catholic and my baptismal name is Paul. During my Ph.D study in Minnesota, I became a Protestant Christian along with my wife, Younkyeong Nam.
  • My current church is the Lord's Church of Minnesota in Minneapolis in Minnesota.

  • Graduate School for Ph.D
    • I joined as Ph.D student the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota at Twin Cities in Fall, 2004 and passed my Ph.D final defense in December, 2009.
    • My advisors are Prof. David Hung-Chang Du and Prof. Tian He. My lab is MESS Lab: Minnesota Embedded Sensor System Laboratory.
    • The dissertation's title is "Wireless Sensor Networking for Intelligent Transportation Systems".

    • I received an MS degree in School of Computer Science and Engineering, Seoul National University in 2001.
    • My advisor is Prof. Yanghee Choi and my lab is Multimedia & Mobile Communications Lab (MMLAB).
    • The thesis' title is "Design and Implementation of One-way IP Performance Measurement Tool".

    • I received a BS degree in Dept. of Information Engineering, Sungkyunkwan University in 1999.
    • The thesis' title is "Location Management for Searching in Mobile Communication" (written in Korean).
• Job Experience
  • I have joined the Department of Software at Sungkyunkwan University as an assistant professor in August, 2012. My research area is Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) that are computing systems interacting with physical, real environments. I am leading Cyber-Physical Systems Laboratory at Sungkyunkwan University. My research includes (i) CPS supporting the safe and efficient driving in transportation systems (e.g., road networks) in real life and (ii) CPS protecting and monitoring efficiently transportation systems (e.g., road networks and subways) and people (e.g., drivers, passengers, and pedestrians) in emergency situations (e.g., wars, accidents, and disasters).
  • I worked for Brocade Communications Systems from 1/19/2010 to 8/1/2012 (two and a half years) as a software engineer. I designed and developed IP Security (IPsec) modules for the gateway (called 7800 and DCX) for interconnecting Data Centers.
  • I worked for Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) in Korea from 2/19/2001 to 8/16/2004 (three and a half years). My main work was to develop Mobile Ad Hoc Networking (MANET) technology and to standardize the Internet technology related to IPv6 in the IETF.
• Family
  • I got married to Younkyeong Nam on February 24, 2002. She received the Ph.D degree from the Department of Education, Curriculum, and Instruction at the University of Minnesota in August in 2011. She has been a research associate in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Center at the University of Minnesota since September in 2011.
  • I have an eight-year-old son whose name is Younseong (born on February, 2003) and a three-year-old daughter whose name is Younjee (born on May, 2008). My son's hobby is Taekwondo that is a Korean martial art. He is a very active and lovely child and likes to listen to fairy tales and gospel songs. My daughter is a lovely little girl and smiles brightly with her eyes.
  • My family's photos are as follows: The first one is my family, December 2010. The second one is my son and daughter, December 2010. The third one is my wife, Younkyeong and me at the promotion test, May 2012. The fourth one is me, May 2012.
    

• Hobby and Community Service
  • My hobby is to play classical guitar. My favorite guitar piece is "Duo in G". In the future, I would like to play this piece with my children.
  • I am teaching Taekwondo (Korean martial art) to children including my son in Minneapolis.
  • I coached the youth soccer team in CTC that is the University of Minnesota Graduate Student Housing in August, 2009.

   • Extension of Wireshark that is one of popular network analysis tools for CXFS packet capturing.
   • Design and Implementation of Parsers based on Lex/Yacc for the automation of Wireshark update for new Interface Description Language (IDL) files and for the display of IDL interface parameters.
2. McData: Development of Testing Tools for Fibre-Channel Switch called iWSM, from 2006.6.1. to 2006.8.31.
   • Setup of IPsec Testbed and Extension design of Ixia's IxANVL for testing the iWSM's IPSec functionality
   • Extension to MessageBox based on Visual C++ and WinBatch that is used for testing the iWSM box
