2024 Summer Computing Academy for female students (junior high and high school)

We will offer two programs this Summer in June:
  1. Two Week Camp: from Monday June 10 to Friday June 21
  2. One Week Camp: from Monday June 24 to Friday June 28

The main goal of this program is to teach computer programming using python in an intense hands-on program to be held on the University of Minnesota campus.
The program will include lectures on fundamental programming concepts and on the python programming language together with extensive hands-on experience in a computer lab.
Instruction will be done by graduate students and professors. Participants will have ample time to work in a computer lab to develop programs for small robots, image processing, and other applications under close supervision of teaching assistants. In addition, there will be a variety of career planning and discovery activities. The afternoon of the last day we will invite parents and friends to see presentations of the projects the students have done during the program.

The program will run every weekday, Monday to Friday, from 9:00am to 4:30pm (we will open the room at 8:30 and stay until 5:00 pm or until everyone is gone). Students will need their own transportation to campus. A light rail station of the green line is on Washington Avenue almost in front of the building. Click for a map and directions to Keller Hall.

We will offer two programs:

  1. the one-week program is for students with no computer experience and finishing grade 6 or above. We can admit younger students as long as they have academic maturity and independence.
  2. the two-week program is for students with some familiarity with using computers and finishing grade 8 or above. We can admit younger students as long as they have computing experience. We do not require knowledge of any specific programming languages.
