CSci 1901: Structure of Computer Programming I
Spring 2007
Class Announcements
- May 7 End of semester questionnaire
We would like to hear your opinions about the class and your ideas on how
to improve it. Instead of using additional class time for this, we will
use a short web based questionnaire. You can do it at your own
convenience and we will not need to type your responses to tabulate the
results (the power of web based programming!).
Please find a few minutes of time to fill it out. Thanks!
Survey closed. - May 5 Office hours next week
Here is the schedule of office hours for next week:
Shana Watters, Monday 10:00-11:00 Matt Soukup, Tuesday (Not Monday) 10:15-12:15 (Sorry for any inconveniences.) Tae Hyun Hwang, Monday 1:15-2:15 Maria Gini, Monday 3:30-4:30 Richard Barnes, Tuesday 2:30-4:30 - May 5 How to interpret scores in grit
I have been receiving messages from students who have seen their score
dropping after we added to grit some of the extra credit scores.
As I said in class, you should look at the total number of points you
have (recall, it is like a bank account), not at your percentage.
When we add extra credit and we include its appropriate weight, the
maximum number of points for the entire class goes up, so for most
students the percentage goes down. There is no way of specifying
extra credit in Grit so, either
- we include the weight of the extra credit. Your percentage decreases but your total is correct. This is what is used for Sections 2, 3, and 4.
- we do not include the weight of the extra credit. Your percentage is correct but your total is not. This is what is used for Section 5 and 6.
- May 4 Keys for hw4 and hw5 posted
- May 4 Another practice final to try
We thought you may want some more practice for the final:
practice exam. We will not
be posting the solutions since we want you to actually try to do the
exam as a form of study. After completing the exam, you can email one
of the TAs or stop by office
hours next week and we would be more than glad to go over any questions
you have
and provide you the solutions. Thanks everyone and good luck studying!

Several students took video and pictures of the AIBO lab, if you have those send them to John (chil0060 at umn dot edu) as soon as possible to get extra credit, if the files are large, ftp them to your U of M webspace and then send John a link. If you have any questions about how to do this, let John know. If you took video or pictures with cameras we lent you and would like to edit the video together, you can find the raw files here. Also if you took video on your own camera and would like to edit in other video clips feel to use these as well. The video files filmed with Kodak camera are the ones with the .mov extesion and have the correct timestamp that you may use to find your video. One group in Section 3 was lent a Sony camera and these videos have a .mpg extension. Once I get more edited and raw video clips I will make a YouTube channel and post a link.Students who film and submit raw video will receive one or two bonus points, submitting edited film will recieve extra bonus points depending on the finished product. Once we get more edited and raw video clips, John will create a YouTube channel and post a link.

It has been brought to my attention that some students did not submit their entire homework because they could not finish it. For instance, homework 1 can be submitted up to tomorrow February 9 . After the Friday lecture we will post a key for the homework and not accept any new submission.
