I worked for the home and building control division
of Honeywell india during the years 1998-99. I was involved in several
projects (three to be precise). Most of my work involved designing firmware
for embbeded devices like the Wall module unit and the Human
Interface panel. A brief description of each of the projects
is given below
Project : "WALLY-2 , Digital display wall unit module"
Description: Enhancing the
display and schedule functionality of a device called "WALLY-2". The device
consists of a neuron chip with an on-chip ROM. The neuron chip implements
a protocol called LONTALK which is used by the controllers to communicate
over the echelon bus (similar to a 1 persistent CSMA/CD protocol).
WALLY-2 functions as a monitoring node on the controller network
and would enable the user to set controller paramters such as humidity,
temperature , gas concentration etc. New display functionality was
added and the device was made capable of handling schedules, which would
provide an automatic way to schedule the activities of the controllers
such as CVAHU (constant volume air handling unit), UV(Unit ventilator),
SBC (small building controller).
Project : "Human Interface Panel", a man machine interface for a small building system
Description: The HIP is designed
to function as a man machine interface for a small building system ,consisting
of a network of controllers . The HIP uses a Motorola microcontroller (MCU
68HC11) as the host processor and the neuron chip as the communications
processor . The two processors communicate via a MIP (Microprocessor Interface
program). The HIP uses a RTOS , which in this case is a non preemptive
multitaskiing kernel. The device is provides the following
functions :
