Molly Ivins: Now on my heros list

So that you’ll actually follow the link below:
“You sit there in Washington so frightened of the big, bad Republican machine you have no idea what people are thinking. I’m telling you right now, Tom DeLay is going to lose in his district. If Democrats in Washington haven’t got enough sense to OWN the issue of political reform, I give up on them entirely.”

“Do it all, go long, go for public campaign financing for Congress. I’m serious as a stroke about this — that is the only reform that will work, and you know it, as well as everyone else who’s ever studied this. Do all the goo-goo stuff everybody has made fun of all these years: embrace redistricting reform, electoral reform, House rules changes, the whole package. Put up, or shut up. Own this issue, or let Jack Abramoff politics continue to run your town.”

Sound prescient? She wrote it last January.

I thought of making a list of people, then calling them all individually on Thursday to say thanks, but it didn’t get off the ground for a number of reasons. Then I thought, well, I’ll just compile and post the list, so everyone can come see their name and gain a small insight into how much you all mean to me. Then I realized that I might forget some people, and that I couldn’t allow that to happen. So here’s the deal, and it’s non-negotiable. If you’re reading this, I want to sincerely thank you for helping me out in life. It’s up to you to realize how you’re doing it, or you can ask me and I’ll be happy to tell you.

So, thanks.

/me lays a big whet one on D’s red-headed cheek. First he solves my file upload problem, then he makes me use openbox at work, and then inspires me to figure out how to do a grid of desktops. kick. ass.
