what is the chance

I have this idea for a new product. Basically, it will be a voice activated head’s up display that will respond whenever you say “what are the chances” or “wow, what is the chance of that happening”. In response the device assesses the situation and then projects, in green, the actual probability of that particular event occurring. I think it will come in handy at parties and the like.

Upon discussing this with the dog, I realized that my prototype was working correctly. You see, I had built in this assumption of all previous events, and therefore anything that actually comes to pass has a probability of one (or unity, if you like) because it could not have happened any other way.

Also, the dog suggested a modification that would keep score. You know, like whenever you do something that scores you points, it just keeps track and reminds you. Example: you ride through the rain at 27 miles an hour and it feels like someone is throwing rocks at you. The device displays “+2″ and your running total for points. The only kink that we need to work out is the scale, and whether you will ever be able to tell people what your score is. Personally, I feel the device should have some sort of vocal inhibitor such that you can never tell anyone how well you’re doing–you just get to feel good about yourself every time you increase your score. Also, I don’t think we should have it display deductions…just your current high. The brain does enough feeling bad without help.
