One big defeat
The FDA is going to approve cefquinome for use in Cattle. If you like bacterial infections, this is a good thing. If, like me, you’re generally opposed to them, hope that reason rather than greed prevails this fall. A few talking points, all taken from this article (you might have to scroll down if you’re running adblock).
-The American Medical association warned against the approval of cefquinome
-Approving the drug is basically mandatory under FDA Guidance #152, which “is more deferential to pharmaceutical companies than is recommended by the World Health Organization.”
-Industry representatives say they trust Guidance #152’s calculation that cefquinome should be approved.
“The industry says that ‘until you show us a direct link to human mortality from the use of these drugs in animals, we don’t think you should preclude their use,’ ” said Edward Belongia, an epidemiologist at the Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation in Wisconsin.
The truly sad part? Only 26 sources are carrying the story on google news, as opposed to 1,850 for “Anna Nicole: Six Feet Under, But Still on Top”. I am squarely with ozmopolitan on this one.
