Research Interests and Projects

Research Interests

My research interests stem from the courses i took during my undergraduate years and also from what i enjoy doing the most. I work with GroupLens research at the UofM and am interested in

  • Collaborative and social software
  • User Interfaces

Some of my Projects and Design Entries include

Educhate: Applicability of Video Chat interfaces in Educational Environments
I was part of a team which developed an online voting interface to study how consensus develops among students in an online learning environment.

A User Controlled Mailing Service.
The project involved developing a system which enabled a user to manage his email id's through the use of a DHT based lookup service. The user could determine which email id of his could be made available to different classes of users. The project was developed in C using the Socket API

An Intrusion Detection System for an Online Banking Application
An Intrusion Detection System was developed which provided security at three levels namely:

  • User Authentication
  • Frequency of User Transactions and Amount Transacted
  • IP based authentication

The project was my final year thesis and involved the usage of basic statistical analysis of user transactions to identify and log anomolous behaviour.

ENTS: Shepherding our Natural Wealth
This project was my team's entry to the IEEE Computer Society's International Design Competition. My role was to aid in the design and development of the software sub-system of the project. The system proposed to monitor parameters which affect water quality namely Temperature, pH, Turbidity and Dissolved Oxygen. The project was one of the chief reasons for my interests in Software Design as it taught me not only how to design a huge software system, but also how not to.
