About me...
That's me in Atlanta
Hi, I'm Amit. I come from India, born into a sweet Bengali family in the western Indian city of Pune. I grew up in Pune - schooling through St. Joseph's High to Fergusson College, finally choosing to pursue a Bachelor's in Computer Science at Government College of Engineering Pune.
That probably should have been the end to my academic career - I graduated from college with a great job in software development with Persistent Systems, one of Pune's homegrown IT powerhouses. I loved my job, but guess the attraction of graduate school was too much to resist. So after an eighteen month stint in the industry, I found myself doing a Master's at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, where I currently am.
That's me in a jiffy. If you'd like to find out more, feel free to explore this site. Thanks for visiting!
What I do...
I like to think of myself as an Artificial Intelligence guy, but I find all areas of Computer Science interesting - well, most of them. In my Master's project, I'm working under Prof. Gini to build a system for the Sony AIBO robots so that its camera system can be used to estimate motion of the robot - a capability that can be very useful to autonomous robots. I'm also a part of Prof. Srivastava's Data Analysis and Management group, and we're trying to build a recommender system for web-browsing in a framework that involves usage logs, profiles and other forms of domain information.
This apart, I also dabble around in computer vision, pattern analysis and machine learning. Software design and programming are some other things that I particularly like.
