Abstract

We present methods to predict future market conditionsand price trends from historical data, and we describe how thesepredictions can be used by an autonomous agent to make strategic andtactical sales decisions. The methods are based on learning dominantmarket conditions, such as over-supply or scarcity, from historical dataand using this knowledge, together with real-time observableinformation, to identify the current market conditions. We use aGaussian Mixture Model to represent the price densityand a Markov process to forecast market changes and to predictprice density over a planning horizon. We validate ourmethods by presenting experimental results in predictingprice trends in the customer market for the TradingAgent Competition for Supply Chain Management.
