We present methods for an autonomous agent to identifydominant market conditions, such as over-supply or scarcity, and toforecast market changes. We show that market conditions can becharacterized by distinguishable statistical patterns that can belearned from historic data and used, together with real-timeobservable information, to identify the current market regime and toforecast market changes. We use a Gaussian Mixture Model to representthe probabilities of market prices and, by clustering theseprobabilities, we identify different economic regimes. We show thatthe regimes so identified have properties that correlate with marketfactors that are not directly observable. We then present methods topredict regime changes. We validate our methods by presentingexperimental results obtained with data from the Trading AgentCompetition for Supply Chain Management.
