Below are a sampling of projects that I have worked on as part of graduate school classes.
Active Prevention
This was a five person project from a class that centered on online public health interventions.
Our goal was to create a website to help women who have had gestational diabetes reduce their
risk for type two diabetes. I served as the sole technical developer and the primary designer.
An
archived copy of the site is located locally. Completed Fall 2007.
Wikipedians Over Time
This was a three person project for a seminar called "Creating the Social Web." We analyzed the
Wikipedia dump from 2002 and 2005 to compare average user contribution patterns to begin to
understand how contribution patterns change on user-created-content pages when the user base
grows dramatically. I worked primarily on the design, analysis, and writing of the paper. I
presented a poster of our results at the 2007 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing. Completed Fall 2006.
A Study of a Visual Programming Environment for LEGO Mindstorms Robots
This was a solo project from an HCI and UI Technology seminar. I ran a small-scale usability
test on four subjects to evaluate the Lego Mindstorms RCX programming interface. I wrote a
paper and gave an in class presentation of my findings. Completed Spring 2006.
medwIRC
This was a five person project for a class on UI Design, Evaluation, and Implementation. Our
goal was to design an interface for back channel chat for the weekly Hennepin County Medical
Center emergency conference. These are fast-paced run downs of the most interesting cases
from the past week. We needed an interface that could be used in this environment. I worked
on many aspects of the project, including design, requirements gathering, and analysis. Completed Fall 2005.
